Personality Traits
Female Warforged personality/identity; Brave, Protective, Reserved, Unshakable.
Mannerisms and Appearance
Thanks to her Hat of Disguise, Medinah only rarely appears as a Warforged. Her normal disguise is a tall, dark and beautiful human woman with long, pale blonde hair (though still with red eyes) in fashionable black clothing and armor. While disguised she rarely ever speaks--this is due to her mechanical monotone. As a Warforged she doesn't look distinguishable from others, apart from a slightly lighter frame. Whether disguised or not, Medinah is continuously looking after and meticulously maintaining her appearance. She also always has a light-emitting ruby gem set on her brow.
Session and Campaign Notes
Known Secret: Medinah knows that before the Pactspell disaster, her maker was developing an artifact that could transfer the mind and soul of a mortal creature into a Warforged chassis, at least theoretically. Whether he succeeded or not, and whether the artifact even still exists, is unknown to her. Unknown Secret: Medinah has a double. There is another "Swordlock" Warforged prototype with a female personality, Naftali, currently active in the world of Siraaj, and she was not created by Medinah's maker but rather by a rival archmage. Naftali knows that Medinah is active and is planning a confrontation with her.
Companions and Allies
NPC Ally: Abdul Ibn Sina, a venerable kobold sage and master engineer in the City of Towers. When Captain Shaur al-Farid purchased Medinah's damaged, inert chassis, she brought her to Ibn Sina who gladly worked to restore such a marvelous creation. Although they rarely see each other now due to Medinah's role as protector of The Midnight Mirage, they still share a kind of familial bond. NPC Neutral: The Sultan of Meraya and patron of Ibn Sina, Syed Awazi Aq-Hazaqan VI, made Captain Shaur al-Farid a handsome offer of purchase for Medinah soon after she was activated. When the Captain asked Medinah "Who would you like to work for, me or the Sultan?" the Warforged chose Shaur. The Sultan has respected the decision, but with a conspiracy now looming against him he may soon make the request again and might not take no for an answer. NPC Enemy: Rahman al-Jabir, a notorious pirate captain with the Corsairs of the Western Seas, has sworn revenge on the captain and crew of The Midnight Mirage, but especially against Medinah who put out one of his eyes in a battle from which he barely escaped.
Background & Other Notes
Many Warforged Swordmages were created during the Admaja Empire, since their inherent abilities and skills made them natural defenders for their magical masters. Medinah, however, is a rare prototype Warforged Warlock/Swordmage who was developed in the Empire's latter years by a brillianly insane archmage as part of a grand metaphysical experiment into the nature of 'Forged souls. Her soul apparently was borrowed from the vestigal power of a dead Astral entity, which was subsequently bartered to a Devil in an Infernal Pact; but, since she (apparently the creator felt a female personality would be easier to relate to) is still a Warforged, does her artificial soul ever truly leave her artificial body and thus go to the Devil who purchased it? Regardless of whatever the fruits of this grand experiment might have been, the archmage's work was still cut short by the Pactspell and Medinah lay inert in his ruined lab for centuries. That was until she was uncovered by an archeological dig outside Mushayar. Shaur al-Farid, captain of The Midnight Mirage, happened to be traveling through that region and saw the inert Warforged was for sale. There was something about it that gave her pause, so she decided to make the purchase and take her new relic to Ibn Sina, a master artificer she knew of in the City of Towers to the south, and he gladly restored Medinah to life. After she had been reprogrammed to speak the Common language, Medinah offered her undying loyalty to those who "brought her back out of darkness," to the point that she rejected an offer from the Sultan himself to be his personal bodyguard. Presumably as a result of her reanimation, Medinah has also regained at least part of the Vestige soul her maker had originally bartered to the Infernals and is now able to draw upon both power sources. Medinah has served admirably as Captain al-Farid's bodyguard and Hunter aboard The Midnight Mirage for years, contributing to the defeat of many a pirate of the Western Coasts and earning the special hatred of at least one Corsair leader. In that time, Medinah has also learned how to present herself more as a person than as a living machine--though she still is rather reserved with her speech, especially when wearing her Hat of Disguise while among those who might react with hostility toward her because of her magical nature. While she initially didn't understand why the Captain felt such an illusionary disguise should be necessary, Medinah took to it quickly as she thought it would help her better identify with the mortals she's destined to protect. (She got the image for her normal disguise from a painting she had seen of an attractive, exotic human woman and she thought that it would be a good way to fit in by standing out.)
