Not sure if an OOC thread will be a permenant addition to the campaign. For now this is the place to chat with the other potential players and ask any campaign related questions for me to answer.

Please note I'm on vacation starting tomorrow night until the 13th. I'll look over characters when I get back and announce who we've got.

So, for one, I am going to submit a rogue, which isn?t to say I have my heart set on the role of the ?party? rogue. I would think there?s plenty of room for two rogues in a party of eight - only it might require some careful conversation. And I don?t want to step on toes, though that?s unavoidable since our Illithid has gathered such a crowd. Anyway, prospective rogues know who there up against ?

Also, I may multi-class; it?s something I like to do.

DM Dread

ok sent my character concept in. dwarven cleric/fighter. I can have a full character done up within just a short time if its a go.

DM Gilgamesh
09-06-2005, 06:15 AM
Well, in the spirit of competition, I too will submit a rogue, as stated in the original thread... My rogue may not fit, so I don't mind being dumped if that's the case... to each his own, you know???

DM Illithid
09-14-2005, 04:08 PM
I'll begin looking over characters tomorrow and providing feedback. At first glance we have 3 rogues, a sorceror, a paladin and a cleric. Which is far less characters than I'd expected, but doable. If you haven't submitted a character because you didn't want to compete with other concepts, now's your time to pipe in.

Remember to only use PHB and FR sources. I've already turned down a PrC and some equipment. I want to give you guys the most out of the game and cannot do that using material I'm not familiar with.

Any news out there? :D

DM Illithid
09-19-2005, 01:09 PM
Despite fifteen votes for interested parties, I have only five characters in my possession.

I've PMed the following individuals asking them to submit a character if they haven't already done so.

Balthazar Fingerhook DM Beholder DM Dread DM Gilgamesh DM Lackey Hannah Scoril Mance Kane Neopopulas Ralen Ruby Daskell Rune Shaman Southern Samurai Turk Mannion

I'll begin writing the campaign soon as I have eight valid characters.

DM Dread
09-19-2005, 02:23 PM
Did you want full characters instead of character concepts? My understanding was you wanted a concept, would choose among the concepts and then we'd submit the final character. So I sent Kilain Gravendak in as a concept. I'm loathe to actually spend the time creating the character if hes not seeing play.

Ill submit a Rough Draft of the character to you as a compromise, let me know yea or nay before I do the full character.

Fortis Tellestaer - Cleric/Auspician of Tymora submitted via PM.

DM Illithid
09-20-2005, 03:16 PM
To clarify my last PM, character concepts and rough drafts are all I'm asking for at the moment.

Here's the roster so far. Let's start building character sheets and get them to me in two weeks. Game will begin mid October.

Kilain Gravendak, shield dwarf C6/F3
Sparrow, moon elf R9
Silvamir Frymm, woof elf Ra4/Paladin 5 of Tempus (not sure if this deity will fit in, PM to player)
Francesca of Mystra, human C8/Divine Disciple 1
unknown, elven enchanter of Azuth (Ralen)
Forits Tellestaer, human C6/Auspician 3
unknown, human Ra5/R4 (Poor William Woodholm)
unknown, human sorceror? (Neopopulus)

My character is Fortis, not Forits...not sure if I typoed it to you or not.

Lot of clerics....we gonna be OK or should I start devising another concept?

DM Illithid
09-23-2005, 01:09 AM
I'm sure it was my typo, Turk. The high cleric count is fine. I'll adjust the combats accordingly.

Combat has come up a lot in the characters so far. For those of you unfamiliar with my style, we'll be seeing 1-2 combats per calendar month. Combats can be split into three categories.

Type I is your standard 'thugs in the ally' encounter. You'll find you drop a bad guy with every sword swing. You'll finish with a pileof bodies and say something like 'that was easy.' That means you've either encountered someone who doesn't recognize how strong you are, or you've encountered a distraction.

Type II is your classic 'boss monster.' If the words 'we are all going to die' crosses your mind while fighting a bad ass monk, a dragon or maybe a nasty undead thing, welcome to Type II combat. These drag on for awhile, so bear with me.

Type III is the DM railroad. Where the ending feels suspiciously scripted. You won't see these too often, unless the combat was avoidable and the bad guys are CLEARLY out of your league. You'll know those situations when you run into them.

Campaign will be heavy on intelligence gathering, alliances and trying to establish who's pulling which strings. Including your own. You can expect 5 'encounters' per level, with most encounters requiring skills or magic to overcome.

I hope to get the party through 11th level by Spring, but no promises.

One more thing regarding languages. If you're from the Waterdeep, Tethyr or Cormy regions, you receive Chondathan as a free language. This is the primary language used in Waterdeep. Illuskan(barbarians), Alzhedo(calishite traders), Thay(red wizards), dragon, elf, halfling, goblin and giant will all see some use, though none of these are essential.

Note to spellcasters - you cannot reliably direct summoned animals/monsters if you do not speak celestial, abyssal or the appropriate elemental language.

Common and undercommon exist but they are trade languages and are horrible at conveying information. Any social skills conducted solely through common or undercommon will impose some ridiculous penalty determined by me. Generally -4.

Party on.

Campaign is still on, just behind schedule. I'm putting all of my spare time into this social class and the Research Paper to finish my degree. Both are done at the end of the month.

Nov 1 I'll get things rolling in earnest. In the meantime, I'll be looking things over, building the story, etc.

On the plus side, I will NOT be attending school this winter and don't expect any interruptions to the story until next Fall.

Sorry for the delay.

Poor William Woodholm

Well mainly out of anticipation, I'm going to post the character background I've worked up. And since we'll be starting as a party of some years' standing, I'd love remarks from anyone interested in putting together some shared-history. We could compare notes, etc. If it runs a little longish then skim it, I blame Illithid and the extra month's time.

"Will Woodholm was a rag of a man, tall, lean and hungry, with hollow cheeks and knife-cut brown hair. His eyes were tired and well prepared for disappointment; his countenance was often empty and so a little wicked-seeming. Still, about him there clung some flavor of good birth, as about a fallen angel; something lithe and proud in the person; something handsome and darkling in the face. And he had at times a kind of pleasantry, more of manner than words.

Any further account was best served by brevity and a strong skepticism. Poor Will was called at turns poet, rat-catcher and tough-for-hire; but he squandered greater sums than he might earn from all these careers together. Indeed, his acquaintances were at pains to explain it with passing, unreasonable rumors – that he sometimes found vanished infants, that he brought home the forrester Thom Gray nine days after the man's funeral, that he bargained his lordship’s prettiest niece from a life of fey service. Here was the fellow willing for the right sort of bribe to visit any kind of tomb or burrow or haunted copse, and whose great deed was only his continued life.

And as is like to happen, such fancies often eclipsed ruder truth. He preferred opiates to liquor, liquor often enough; he slept in the day, went in and out of debtor's prison, saw plays at the theater, tempted woman and did aught else. Rather than wit or courage it was this inconsequence of purpose that was the chief mark of his character. Rightly said, he was a careless and, except to the cynic, an uninteresting type."

Here's the last Roster I have. I'll PM everyone for an updated character sheet. I'll start Nov 5. If I don't have a char sheet by then you're asleep in town and miss the action.

Kilain Gravendak, shield dwarf C6/F3
Sparrow, moon elf R9
Silvamir Frymm, woof elf Ra4/Paladin 5 of Hoar
Francesca of Mystra, human C8/Divine Disciple 1
unknown, elven enchanter of Azuth (Ralen)
Forits Tellestaer, human C6/Auspician 3
Poor William Woodholm, human Ra5/R4
Hani (Han-Eye) Aadouhn (Ahh-Doo-han), human sorceror8/War Wizard

Well, an assortment of magical treasure has yet to be claimed from the party history:

Ring of cold resistance minor (for the party?s rogue)
Shied +2 (for a fighter)
Several (two or three?) suits of mithral chain
A few (three?) longswords +1
Greatsword +2 aberration bane
And a ??? staff (for the wizard)

Please chime in.

P.S. Hello to Silvamir and Francesca. Is everyone else still with us (Neopopulus? Ralen?) and only busy with work, family, academics, other games, etc. ? Role call?

[Edit: Silvamir are you a TWF Ranger? If not you're the most likely (really only) candidate for the greatsword, any interest? If I take it or Gravendak takes it we'll probably have to petition the squid to change it to something else, flail, great-axe, shortsword..]

My friends,

During vacation I gave some thought to my gaming activities and have decided to curtail some of my commitments. Illithid, thank you for the opportunity, but I have decided to cut Francesca.

I invite you to find a suitable replacement who can give this group and this game the attention and efforts they deserve.

Thanks.

No prob, Francesca. I'm in the same boat and will be discontinuing this adventure and my involvement on plothook. I'll be around to whatever extent MIB and Slackster need me for technie work. But for the most part I'm off to other adventures in life.

Been a pleasure though.

P.S. Zai'Tan was busy possessing one PC after another. First William then Lellewyn. Silvamir was next. The Monks are there to ensure Zai'tan's spirit is reunited with his tiefling body to best use specific feats chosen by Zai'tan. The lady following the monks is a were-bat and agent of an Illithid disguised as a gnome that's been grooming the party since he appeared as a dwarf during your fourth level adventure.

The Illithid requires a part of adventurers to seek and destroy some Illithid experiments gone awry and would eventually bring them to an illithid city to deliver magic of some kind and share knowledge with the elder brain. This would occur twice before the PCs were attacked by the illithid for their scrumptuous brains.

Fun things planned ahead as always. You were all a pleasure to play with. Sorry to pull the plug :(
